The Fastest Way To Fail At Online Dating
Be Negative or Rude
Nobody will be interested in you if you have a negative outlook, if you are rude to them, or if you portray yourself as someone who thinks that they are the greatest and hottest thing since sliced bread. You have to be positive, nice, and even humble - to a point. If you are constantly negative, nobody will want to talk to you. If you go to the other side of the scale, and you only want to talk about you, again, nobody will be interested.
Don't Be Active On The Site
If you just set up a profile, and then don't participate, you probably won't find a match. You have to get in there and communicate! When you receive match notifications, follow up - contact that person and start a conversation. Join the chats. Participate in the forums. Join interest groups that relate to your life. Many people claim that online dating didn't work for them, when in reality, they didn't do enough to ensure that it would work for them. The online dating site is just a tool, but you have to use that tool to accomplish what you want to accomplish - you have to do the actual work!
Being To Open or Graphic
Unless you are a member of a site that really only caters to those who are looking for one time or short term sexual encounters, leave sex out of it for now! At quality sites, where people are looking for true love matches, personalities come first, and sex comes later - much later! Furthermore, asking questions of a sexual nature, or making sexual comments may not only make you look bad, it is a good way to get your membership cancelled!
These days, many online dating services will actually charge you with fraud
if they find out that you've lied about your marital status. So, if you are
married, and still want to participate in online dating, you had best read
the sites policy on this first - or stick with sites that cater to married
people that are looking for affairs (they do exist). Never lie about your
relationship status, or past relationships.
Be Too Shy
Some people really like people who have some measure of shyness. But if you are so shy that you can't communicate effectively with other members of the site, you better get over that shyness if you want online dating to work for you. Many people mistakenly think that online dating is ideal for people who are shy around others, but this isn't necessarily true, because if you meet a match online, you will want to meet them in person at some point as well.
Choosing Only The Good Looking Ones
Beauty is only skin deep. If you avoid contact with people that aren't that good looking, you may be throwing away the opportunity of a lifetime! There are actually ugly fat old men who only want to date 20-something women with bodies to die for. Do you think they will get that chance? Not in a million years! Furthermore, when it comes to online dating, your chances of hooking up with the ones that are hot are slim - those people get offers everyday. Besides, if you are looking for a true match, the way a person looks shouldn't matter - if they are truly your match, you will only see their beauty!
Not Being Personal
Some people cut and paste replies, and this is a mistake. If this is something
that you find yourself doing, it is a good indication that you really don't
have time for dating - online or offline. If you do this because you can't
think of anything original to say, stop and take stock. Do you really want
to try to fool people into believing that you are sharp and witty, if you
are more simple and serious? When communicating with others on the dating
site, be yourself, and say what you think or feel.
